Lesson 86 | Fretboard Exploration & Advanced Articulation
Master an 8-stroke arpeggio circuit while navigating strategic horizontal shifts from the nut to the 10th fret.
Studio Insights
The Polyphonic Right Hand
To achieve a sophisticated sound, ensure the melody (plucked by a) rings with slightly more weight than the internal i and m accompaniment and the bass (p), creating a three-dimensional architecture of sound.
The Anti-Glissando Standard
Because this lesson relies heavily on guiding fingers and barres, you must be extremely vigilant. Avoid the "sliding" sound by releasing vertical pressure just enough to move without generating friction noise.
Horizontal Navigation & The Shadow Barre
To navigate the leap from Fret II to Fret VII seamlessly, utilize a Shadow Barre. Rather than lifting your index finger completely, use it as a "guiding barre"—maintaining light contact with the strings as you slide to the new position. This technique provides a spatial blueprint for the hand and ensures you land with precision.
The Play along
I've found that at the begining of the learning journey it can be very helpful to have a recording to follow along. Remember that you can easily change YouTube video playback speed on any device by clicking the settings gear icon, selecting Playback speed, and choosing a different speed from the menu, or even setting a custom speed.
