The Four-Note Articulation Chain

In this lesson, you will often encounter an ascending slur immediately followed by a descending one. This creates a sequence of four sounds from only two right-hand plucks. To execute this with masterful efficiency, keep the lower finger (the "starting" note) firmly fixed throughout the entire four-note sequence. This acts as a structural anchor, ensuring the melody remains stable and resonant.

The "Pre-Set" & "Hover" Hybrid

Combining slurs requires two different preparation mindsets at once. For the ascending portion, use the Hovering Finger principle to stay close to the target. For the descending portion, you must have the receiving finger fixed on the fretboard before the slur even begins. Mastering this hybrid preparation is essential for maintaining clarity and consistent volume.

The Index Guide (i) & The Half-Barre

The right hand primarily oscillates between p-i and alternating i-m patterns. To navigate the shifting vertical positions, rely on your index finger (i) as your primary spatial guide. When the index finger is correctly positioned, the rest of the fingers will naturally "fall" into its proper alignment, allowing you to focus on the melodic slurs.

The Play along

I've found that at the begining of the learning journey it can be very helpful to have a recording to follow along. Remember that you can easily change YouTube video playback speed on any device by clicking the settings gear icon, selecting Playback speed, and choosing a different speed from the menu, or even setting a custom speed.
