Lesson 52 | Alternating Plaqué & Dynamic Tiering

Refine your polyphonic control by alternating between melodic p-a strikes and rhythmic i-m accompaniment within an extended C Major framework.

Studio Insights

Dynamic Tiering (pa vs. im)

In this lesson, your i and m fingers serve as the rhythmic and harmonic "fillers." To ensure the a finger’s top voice remains the primary melodic source, aim for a lower, more controlled volume on the im plucks. This nuanced approach to dynamics is the hallmark of professional mastery.

The Finger-Tip Proximity Habit

Maintain a stable technical foundation by keeping your fingertips curved and strictly close to the strings at all times. This "Active Ready" state minimizes the friction of arriving at the finger's destinations with absolute symmetry and ease.

The Pivot Point Anchor (Measure 3)

The transition into measure 3 presents a sophisticated technical case study. By keeping your 1st finger steady on fret 1 as an "anchor" or pivot point, you provide the hand with the stability needed to maintain control during the complex 2 and 4 finger placements in the measures that follow.

The Play along

I've found that at the begining of the learning journey it can be very helpful to have a recording to follow along. Remember that you can easily change YouTube video playback speed on any device by clicking the settings gear icon, selecting Playback speed, and choosing a different speed from the menu, or even setting a custom speed.
