Lesson 51 | Simultaneous Four-Voice Coordination

Master the "Full-Voice" threshold by striking the thumb and three accompaniment fingers (pima) as a single, unified harmonic event.

The Unified Resonance Goal

The primary objective of this lesson is to strike four notes at the exact same moment. This is not about speed; it is about precision. Focus on the symmetry of your right-hand strike, ensuring that the thumb and fingers ima move from the knuckles in one coordinated motion. Speed will arrive as a natural byproduct of this mechanical mastery.

The "Start-to-Finish" Mapping

Technical efficiency requires spatial awareness. For every shift, be consciously aware of your current finger placement before you move to the next chord shape. As important as knowing your destination is knowing your point of origin. This "Start-to-Finish" habit creates a more reliable mental blueprint and reduces the mental friction of the piece.

Strategic Anticipation (Case study: measure 5)

To navigate the transitions such as the one into measure 5 with professional ease, practice preparing finger 2 two beats in advance. By engineering a "hover state" over string 2, fret 2, you ensure the finger is ready to land exactly when the beat arrives. This practice of early preparation is the key to maintaining a fluid and nuanced musical pace.

The Play along

I've found that at the begining of the learning journey it can be very helpful to have a recording to follow along. Remember that you can easily change YouTube video playback speed on any device by clicking the settings gear icon, selecting Playback speed, and choosing a different speed from the menu, or even setting a custom speed.
