Lesson 48 | The Three-Voice Milestone
Cross the threshold into professional polyphony by engineering a distinct bass line, a middle-voice accompaniment, and a primary treble melody.
Studio Insights
The Dual-Source Strategy
You are essentially playing two instruments at once here. Focus on the refinement of the upper melody.
The "Singer and the Band" Concept
In this three-part composition, your ring finger (a) carries the main melody—think of it as the "singer." To ensure this voice remains the primary source, prioritize its volume while keeping the i-m accompaniment (the "band") softer. Mastering this dynamic balance is the secret to creating a professional, nuanced musical narrative.
The 4th Finger Alignment Habit
Keep your 4th finger curved and hovering close to the first string at all times, even when it isn't pressing a note. This practice acts as a structural anchor for the left hand, ensuring all other fingers remain symmetrical and aligned for the chord changes throughout the piece.
The Play along
I've found that at the begining of the learning journey it can be very helpful to have a recording to follow along. Remember that you can easily change YouTube video playback speed on any device by clicking the settings gear icon, selecting Playback speed, and choosing a different speed from the menu, or even setting a custom speed.
