The Oscillation Dialogue

This lesson focuses on the rhythmic interaction between the thumb (p) and the simultaneous ima strike. By oscillating between these two actions—sometimes with consecutive thumb plucks or repeated plaqués—you build the technical precision required for complex polyphonic pieces. Aim for a consistent, balanced tone, ensuring the accompaniment never overpowers the melodic presence of the bass line.

Selective Pressure Release

To keep the main melody clear and resonant, your left hand must be highly intentional. In certain measures, you will need to release the pressure on specific fingers while maintaining their position. This prevents unwanted harmonic bleed and ensures your melodic line remains the primary source of focus. Mastering this "active release" is essential for professional-grade clarity.

Strategic Anchoring & Hovering

Efficiency is found in the notes that don't move. Finger 1 remains in the same spot across both measures 2 and 3; keep it anchored—either as a fully pressing fixed finger or a shadow-fixed finger. Additionally, use the "hover" technique by positioning finger 3 over string 5 to engineer a seamless transition into measure 4.

The Play along

I've found that at the begining of the learning journey it can be very helpful to have a recording to follow along. Remember that you can easily change YouTube video playback speed on any device by clicking the settings gear icon, selecting Playback speed, and choosing a different speed from the menu, or even setting a custom speed.
