The Guiding Finger Protocol

Transitioning from measure 1 to measure 2 requires a high-level blueprint for efficiency. Use finger 2 as your "Guiding Finger"—keep it in contact with the string as you shift to the new position. This constant point of reference provides the stability needed to engineer a silent, professional-grade transition.

The "Shadow" Transition (Measure 1 & 2)

To navigate the new minor-third shape on strings 3 and 2, you must utilize "strategic anticipation." While playing measure 1, ensure finger 3 is already hovering directly over the 3rd string. Repeat this practice in measure 2 by bringing finger 1 into a "Ready State" over the 3rd string. This proactive approach eliminates the friction of finding new notes mid-pulse.

Horizontal Flexibility

This lesson introduces a new region on the 3rd string (fret 4). Mastering this reach requires a stable left-hand foundation. Ensure your knuckles remain parallel to the neck to provide the leverage needed for these more complex shapes, allowing every voice in the p-i-m-i-a-i-m-i circuit to ring with absolute clarity.

The Play along

I've found that at the begining of the learning journey it can be very helpful to have a recording to follow along. Remember that you can easily change YouTube video playback speed on any device by clicking the settings gear icon, selecting Playback speed, and choosing a different speed from the menu, or even setting a custom speed.
