Lesson 37 | Mapping the First Position (part 9 of 10)

Lesson 37 is a monumental threshold in the Sagreras journey. By introducing the chromatic scale across two octaves, we move beyond the "safe" notes of C Major and into the full spectrum of the instrument. With this lesson you'll complete your knowledge of the notes in the first position (open strings and the first four frets).

The Scores

Studio Insights

📐 The 1-2-3-4 Architecture

This lesson is the ultimate training ground for finger independence. By strictly following the 1234 and 4321 sequences, you engineer the structural strength needed for complex modern repertoire. Don't hide from the 4th finger; embrace it as a vital pillar of your hand's symmetry.

⏳ Rhythmic Refinement

The 16th note is our fastest pulse yet. To master this speed, focus on the economy of motion. Keep your "walking" i-m strokes small and your left-hand fingertips hovering just millimeters from the strings. Speed is simply the absence of wasted movement.

🔔 Navigating Accidentals

The introduction of sharps and flats adds a new layer to our first-position map. Use this lesson to bridge the gap between sight-reading and physical spatial awareness, ensuring every accidental is met with a clean, confident strike right behind the fret-wire.

The Play along

I've found that at the begining of the learning journey it can be very helpful to have a recording to follow along. Remember that you can easily change YouTube video playback speed on any device by clicking the settings gear icon, selecting Playback speed, and choosing a different speed from the menu, or even setting a custom speed.
