Lesson 36 | Mapping the First Position (part 8 of 10)
Lesson 36 gives you the space to ssynthesize all of the notes in the first position. By mastering this lesson, you will have learnt most of the notes you'll need to know to play the majority of the lessons of the first Sagreras book.
Studio Insights
📐 Rhythmic Subdivision
The jump from quarter notes to eighth notes isn't just about speed; it’s about precision. To keep the pulse steady, focus on the "Walking" i-m alternation. Small, economic movements in the right hand are the secret to maintaining clarity as the tempo increases.
⏳ The Total Audit
This is the "Grand Test" for your 3 Golden Rules. As you navigate the full range of the guitar at a faster pace, check for friction. Are your fingers still curved? Is your left hand still hugging the fret-wire? Speed often masks tension—stay grounded in your form.
🔔 The Vertical Engine
Because this lesson covers every string, your right hand must act as a perfectly vertical engine. Avoid "reaching" for strings; move the entire hand as a unit to ensure every note has the same resonant quality
The Play along
I've found that at the begining of the learning journey it can be very helpful to have a recording to follow along. Remember that you can easily change YouTube video playback speed on any device by clicking the settings gear icon, selecting Playback speed, and choosing a different speed from the menu, or even setting a custom speed.
